Wow! What a post! Steph, it must have taken you a year to put it all together. I really love Entangled. I have my eye on their Bliss line for an uncharacteristically (of me) sweet romance I'm wrapping up right now. I LOVE their cover art and the reputation they have with authors.

Your review of Christmas Past was nice. I too love time-travel tropes and seeing how authors will put their unique spin on it. I loved the excerpt. Mixing modern technology with a hero whose paradigms force him to fear what he doesn't understand. That's a situation that naturally leads into a TON of conflict.

This is some giveaway. I entered! Now to go spread the word!

I love a hero who examines his sexual proclivities. Of course, it has to make sense with the plot and with his character. Authors need to be careful of random-musing info-dumps, but I love me a guy who is al like, "Wow, I'm a horny bastard." There's something so endearing about acknowledging being in slavery to one's self and one's desires in some way.

I've been meaning to try Katherine Ashe. I'll check this one out. Thanks, Steph!

Ha, ha. Because when I come to read reviews I'm not in promo mode, I guess;-)
I'm reading to learn what people are looking for. I'm a firm believer that if you want to make it in writing, you have to do two things: Write to the market and write what speaks to you. If you can marry those, you'll do well. If you favor one over the other, readers will either sense your lack of passion or they won't be attracted to what you've written. It's a balancing act, and I think reading reviews is vital to someone trying to make a career out of writing;-)

I liked this review, Steph. I took some of your points to heart, because I've gotten similar reviews on my writing, that I have too many elements in my Highlander time-travel. Great job explaining your reasons.

I too have read those books where I feel like I'm critiquing rather than reading purely for enjoyment. I'm curious about this one, though, and might check it out, prepared for fun and a little roughness around the edges...

Already have this one on my Kindle, so didn't enter the giveaway, but I just had to say, I LOVE CHARLOTTE! That is all.

I'm a Ruthie fangirl, too, Steph! I'm not sure about the whole serial thing though. It sounds like so much work, downloading a book chapter by chapter. I will buy it though when it comes out. I have been looking forward to the naked beekeeper for a long time!

I loved the first book I read by Kelly Armstrong, Bitten. It had angst and self-discovery, a strong romance. Stolen, the second I read, was good too, but less romance-y. I tried Dime Store Magic, and that was even less romance-y, and after that I lost interest. My attention span seems to require a good strong romance element, and Kelly's wonderful writing seems to lean more toward urban fantasy. I'm not saying I won't read her again, but I've found other authors who bring me more of what I want. I think she's great, though, and SO prolific.

Hi Steph!
As you describe Eden's writing style, I'm reminded of Charlotte Stein. Stein is a stream of consciousness kind of writer...I think, if I'm understanding it right...Stein writes in a style that is like deep pov taken even deeper. The books are from her heroine's pov, and her heroines are always hugely self-depreciating and broken in some way but largely functional and unbelievably endearing.
You might try her and see if the style works a little better for you while still bringing the deep intimacy of being so far inside a character's head.
I think I've read eden before. I'm going to go check. Ah yes. I read Bound by Blood. I gave it 5 stars on GR. Why have I not read more of her? *Runs to Eden's website to shop*
Have a great weekend!

I love Megan Hart, but I wussed out and avoided Broken. It's like Megan's writing brings me so deep into scary places in myself that I have to be in just the right mood to pick up her newer stuff.

She's a talent to be sure. I'll keep this one in mind, but I know I have to read Broken first. Sigh. The TBR is out of control!
