I like to think that we've all been here, because I know I have. It's bloody hard this parenting lark, but I truly believe that because we question ourselves, we are doing the best that we can. I'd rather that than breeze through thinking that I was doing a great job, without putting two seconds thought into it.

I LOVED the Olgas, and also King's Canyon which we went hiking in about twenty years ago. Last year we went all over Oz with our kids, and particularly loved Western Australia, which we spent three weeks driving through. Spellbinding place.

We stayed with a family in Borneo, in their house on stilts in a village that you can only reach by boat. No running water, only had electricity for four years, and then intermittently. Our children had a ball, they were lovely friendly people and the mum was an amazing cook. When we got back to the nice guesthouse in the 'proper town', we talked to our children about poverty and asked whether they thought the family was rich or poor. They all thought about it quite carefully then decided that they were rich, because they had expensive food (prawns from the river) and a big house (it was big, didn't have much in the way of furniture mind) and a nice life, and they seemed happy. And in a way they are right. Sorry for the long comment, I think I might write a post about this...

I have loved the process of unpacking and rediscovering the things that make my home, home. Every time I take a photo of my home, it gets the earlybird treatment!
