Friends!!!! The "Con Or Bust" auction is back for another year, and bidding is up at http://con-or-bust.org/2016/05/bidding-now-live-o... !!
It's a great effort to help POC get to SFF cons that would be otherwise priced out of possibility. This is their main source of funds for the year. I scored some super great books last year, and I highly encourage you to check it out!

Without detracting from the vigor with which I wish Mallory, Nicole and Nicole a month or a year of decent sleep-ins, the world is a most Cruel Place and I shall rend garments and gnash teeth most markedly.

Dude synchronized swimming story!! My pops, who was a semi-pro football player in the seventies, said that his high school football coach used to make the whole team attend practice with the synchronized swimmers in the off-season. He said that Coach told them they'd rethink their status as the tough-guy standard bearers after a few rounds in the pool with the swim team.
He's retired now, but still swims almost every day, and loves to surprise other pool-goers by being the three-hundred pound guy doing a graceful side swan-dive into the pool followed by a couple of pointy-toe leg moves.

Mallory, you are a howl, and also invited to attend any concert with me any time.
Also, first not-with-my-mom concert: Our Lady Peace and Everclear, circa 1996. Not sorry.

Am I being contrarian if I have some sympathy for the nose-picker?
I don't think that Mallory gave a wrong advice, but body-picking can also be symptomatic of a compulsive tendency; if that might be the case, then a different approach might be needed. A lot of body-pickers feel pretty intense shame about it, and about their inability to stop. A gentler conversation, rather than a sharper Knock It Off, could be in order.
Either way, of course, a doctor visit is entirely called for.

My own small reminder is to ask myself the basics: Have I eaten. Am I clean. Did I exercise today. Do I need a nap. Usually these are needs that I can meet without much expense, or can scale to suit available means.
