I have a friend whose stories absolutely confirm your account.

After she'd regaled me with many stories, she told me about the 3 Knickers Rule at which point I was like "Holy FUCK! All of a sudden, the Pink Floyd catalog makes SO much more sense!"

3 Knickers rule: Girls had to wear 3 sets of knickers, donned after Sunday pm baths, IIRC. On Wednesdays you got to take off the innermost set. On Saturdays, most girls switched the two remaining pairs. You see, the genitals had to be covered by at least TWO sets, for $_Ladybit Modesty Reasons. Creepy AF part: there were *regular* panty checks to make sure at least 2 were on. If you had any leakage or other accident that soiled only the inner set, you could remove the soiled pair, as long as you had 2 remaining - after a *knicker-mishap inspection*.

ONCE in college I got invited to a friend of a friends' party and didn't grok that it was a costume party, and I was just dressed regular. Which for me then was somewhere between grunge and goth with sorta big hair b/c my hair gets big with any dampness in the air and I live in coastal New England.

I just told people I was "Fuckin' Apathetic, So...?"
