I am confused by her arc and they way it is being portrayed in the show. She seems to be having a slow descent into revenge, but instead the show just focuses on how badass she is and really wants to play that up instead of bringing itself down to earth. I think Arya's arc is probably the thing most hurt by the lack of finished books. The showrunners have been handed a fan favorite who obviously has a thin outline of where she is going (the timeline of which is not helped by Martin's decision to back out of a timeskip and rewrite things). However, since none of the deeper and complex parts to this have been given the books in depth focus yet, they can just throw it up on the screen for everyone to enjoy without all the weight because they get the bare minimum essential points to plot and can then add some Badass to it.
I thought that this a was a great revenge, the culmination of Arya's darkest desires and her training. So why the heck does she take off her mask and then just walk out at the end? Are there no guards? Do NONE of the women care about their men/standing? If Arya had shuffled into the room as Frey, done the same speech, and then shuffled out with the girl to show dead guards killed by surprise or treachery and she turned away from the girl, took off her mask showing the audience it was Arya, then cut to the girl's POV as Frey/Arya turns around with a 3rd face to KEEP HER DISGUISE and gives the same "winter came" speech... As it is, if Arya shows up somewhere those women are at, they'll know she killed an entire House. Heck if they had just had her put on a new face at the end of the slow walk through the bodies before the cut that could have served its purpose.
The show waffles between portraying her with such badassery it seems to forget that what she has learned is a great way to sneakily kill people plus a developed character unafraid to kill. Not someone who can just walk into a room and defeat all her enemies while wearing her own face. Arya should have been wearing the face of a Frey when she ran into the Lannister men if you want to keep the badassery going.
Ugh, I'm kinda going on a tangent and griping about something that wasn't really that bad, but just seems to be lacking any sort of extra thinking on the show instead of "Arya's badass now, look at her!"

Erm what? I don't quite think everyone has grasped how family allegiances and loyalties work? They aren't allies who agreed to fight a common enemy being forced to bend the knee, their holdings are under House Stark domain. There were some rather extreme circumstances that caused the heads of house Karstark and Umber to betray the loyalty due to House Stark and refuse the call. They turned traitor in a civil war. This is the kind of thing that can actually result in families losing the rights and ownership to the lands they are given.
Also, as CJWriterGal points out below, they weren't going to be kicked out into the cold unless whoever gained their lands was a complete asshole and evil. They were going to lose the Family Home (Karhold and I don't remember what Umber's castle is called), which is essentially like a lesser version of Winterfell. It's not a literally house that they sleep in, the current families would be moved into some lesser accommodations (sad to say, there's probably some excess lodging and sharing of homes right now with the civil war killing off so many of the people). They would however, lose their titles and their prestige, their place in the hierarchy.
As a kid growing up as a member of these Houses, they would probably have been taught from even their young age what was expected of them. Sure, the kid from Umber looks a little young to perhaps grasp everything with politics yet, but he would understand that everything that made Umber more than just his last name could get stripped away even if he didn't know all the consequences of that.
If some terrible accident had killed off their parents, they would have come before House Stark and sworn their loyalties which in turn means House Stark will protect them. In other circumstances, this swearing of loyalty may even be greeted with some level ceremony and feasting. In this case, in one move Jon has has cemented their ownership of their titles, their standing as the family heads, and given them a defense against those who might try to openly undermine their rights to their lands by referencing their parents betrayal.
