Yup, totally different. The friend with an Etsy store is actually making and selling stuff, and the money you spent will go to him or her (and presumably in part to supplies). Here money just goes up the pyramid.

I've tweeted at Emily Nussbaum! And yes, I think as long as you don't expect them to react, and actually say something in your tweet, it's fine. But take a look at any random tweet with someone with over 100k followers and it's full of people desperate to just be noticed.

I've had some fun interactions, though! For instance, at one point Timothy Simons was trying to think of the name of a director someone had recommended to him ("John something... young guy?") and I somehow correctly intuited that he meant Ben Wheatley. That certainly made my day. But yes, it can be a little freaky, too.
