I can't even beging to imagine how hard it is for agents to weed through submissions like that searching for the select one, two, three that shine. However, this is a very uplifting post for those of us who are doing a little something right. We just have to sit back and hope our story resonates with an agent we query, and we already know we have a head start on the queries you list above.

1. Is it good to have a one sentence hook to start off, and then a full paragraph or two for the more complete pitch? Or just stick with a couple of paragraphs without the one-liner?
2. Should you compare your novel with a novel the agent represents? Or would that make the agent think they already represent something similar making it an easy pass? Or maybe it's good to compare, but explain why different?
Good luck with the breakout session!

Sounds like a great book. Very pretty cover.

I love it when books teach me something cool. Dani Pettrey's book, Submerged, did that recently. She wove some really cool history with scuba diving and cities buried deep into the ocean and murder and romance. You get the picture.

I read this series backwards, but I can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading them!! I might have to feature the series in a post. I. Loved. These. Posts. Awesome diagnoses.

I loved that flashback. Until Miss Katie just pointed it out, I didn't even care that the scene wasn't believable. Thanks, Kaite, because now I totally am remembering and you are so right. That was completely out of character. Grrr. But did you look at his smile above?

I think they're mostly the same people. And while the show does a good job of bringing out this true love for Elana even amidst his binges, I think he's too weak for Elana. Now, I know substance abuse is a true disease, so I forgive him for it. I just think he needs to go on off to rehab and get help. Give Elana time to truly explor her feelings for Damon. Or Elijah (I promise there's something there, too.)

Yeah, I made the mistake of following Alaric (aka @ErnestoRiley) on Twitter, and his tweets are so completely strange that I have trouble separating Alaric from @ErnestoRiley. So, while I love Rick as a good ol' crazy villain, Ernesto is just nuts. And Ernesto is not his real name, I don't think, so I'm afraid the Dissociative Identity Disorder just might have carried over into real life. I'll miss him as a villain on TVD, but I'm sure they'll bring another good one on. I really need more of Elijah on there. He can be a villain, a hero, I don't care. :)
