Patricia Wrede did some interesting stuff with language and spells in Mairelon the Magician and Wizard's Ward -- basically you can't/shouldn't cast in your native language. I think it's something about magic being easier to control in a language you don't usually speak/think in, and when one cocky evil British dude starts casting in English, things go really wrong.

Do we think they're setting up the cute professor as a love interest? Because he's cute, but he's her professor, not cool!!!

Ugh, Petra's mom.

Toasties, I am trying to find a piece I read a couple years ago (inspired to go looking for it by the feminism thread) where a woman recounted her husband's experience. I believe he'd been at a conference or work retreat and had been shielding a female friend from unwanted advances by another guy (who then tried to say nasty things about their friendship). He and female friend went hiking or something and when they came back, creepy dude was waiting in dark hallway and confronted them about "where they'd been".

Point of piece was that husband felt uneasy about everything and couldn't put his finger on why, and wife (and all women who heard/read story) immediately went, "WHY WAS CREEPY DUDE WAITING IN DARK HALLWAY?"

Any chance someone knows this piece/has a link to it?

Did I not tell you to watch it as soon as I marathoned the first two seasons in one weekend? Because if I didn't, that seems unlike me.
