Jeannie! How did I not get to meet you last week?!?! Travesty. I definitely agree with you about the two sides of the coin, and definitely fight my own battles with comparison. I was just telling someone about one of the OTHER two sided coins of the writing life: pride (I write so much better than _____, why isn't it happening for ME?!) vs. self doubt (I'm a complete hack! I don't deserve to be published. I have no idea what I'm doing!) I had no idea those two emotions (read: sins) could even coexist, but I often find myself feeling them both at the exact same time.
Already joined, but I just heard about this book--that Silas is one of the dreamiest/swooniest heroes of all time. So, I HAD to comment when I saw an opportunity to get my hands on it. Fingers crossed. ENewman(at)outlook(dot)com
Love love LOVE Divergent (and Insurgent) . . . the end is similar though. No closure for any of us until book 3 (HOPEFULLY then!). I actually LOVE dystopias. Dystopians? I also enjoyed Matched and Delirium (although TALK about a dissatisfying ending. That one made me see red. Hoping for some closure in book 3 there as well--but the writing itself is beautiful!). Also loved the Hunger Games, but again . . . not so much the ending.
I started out with The Giver and Fahrenheit 451 in highschool, and have just always loved them. I liked Abigail's explanation, so I'll just go with that.
Jumping track completely (except that it's still YA), have you read The Sky is Everywhere. I would think it would be pretty fascinating from a therapist's point of view. From a writer's it's pretty much perfection.
