I had just graduated college and had kind of a dead end, crappy job with a micromanaging boss and was pretty scared that that was going to be the next 40 years of my life. The Toast, the Toast commentariat, and links like Ask A Manager helped me not lose my mind. And now I have a great job that I'm actually interested in.
I also would suggest asking your daughter. My MIL doesn't like a nickname for her daughter's name (think Beth or Jenny) and gets very testy when people use the nickname, even though it's actually her daughter's preferred name.
I love Beautiful Ruins. It makes me feel like I'm sitting at one of those fancy hotels on the Mediterranean with the yellow and white striped umbrellas and a glass of rose.
I can never decide if I love Secret History (as a lover of boarding school/rich kid problems books) or absolutely hate it because everything and everyone is awful.
My cat loves her leash because it means going outside, but it is definitely a method of tethering her to the yard and not a walking device. She will be running around, pleased as punch, and as soon as I try to exert any control over her movement she plants herself on the ground and refuses to move.
He has officially gone from curmudgeon who has a lot of great points to old man obsessed with one topic who refuses to get out of a woman's way.
My only Kim K complaint is that she sometimes seems like a wet blanket, but I don't really like clubs either so who am I to judge.
It was really common in my town growing up as well. Most people got a hand me down or a used, sometimes the oldest kid would get new and all the kids after would drive the same car. I think a lot of parents were willing to pay the payment/insurance if it meant no more carpooling.
This is so interesting to me, partially because growing up all the women (almost exclusively wealthy, white SAHMs) I knew were firmly MRS. But as an adult in the professional world, it definitely seems like Ms. is the default -- like Mrs. often isn't even on forms.
