Yes, that's a good way of putting it! For me, I read the Bell Jar just before the worst depressive period of my whole life. It was hard for a long time for me to separate that depression from the reading that preceded it. That led me then to an ambivalent feeling about Plath I'd love to explore further at a later point in time.
