well setting a reminder to check the site at 10 turned out to be worth it

Just told Slackbot to remind me to come back at 9:55, because I do not trust myself and refuse to miss whatever is coming.

I would counter that rather than overthinking it, she thinks about it JUST ENOUGH

That was the first thing anybody ever paid me to write, so I guess it changed mine too! Glad you liked it :D

Well I know what I'm doing the rest of today!

More seriously—writing FFs for Game of Thrones and Bend It Like Beckham felt like fulfilling my one true destiny in life, so thank you to The Toast for being a place I could do that.

Oh my gosh! Is there a Philly Toasties community I wasn't aware of?? Is there a newsletter/FB group I can subscribe to? Either way, see you Thursday! Should I bring snax? I'm gonna bring snax.

I also hopped off social media on Friday night, because the reaction I was (and am) having was...pretty self-centered, and that doesn't really belong on people's feeds during this kinda moment. I'm hoping Toasties will forgive me for putting it here.

When I was 15 I was living in the Paris suburbs and attending an international school, where I made a lot of friends who were much cooler than me. One of the things I did with my cool friends was go to my FIRST CONCERT EVER! I was a little emo teen, so I wanted to go see Taking Back Sunday, my favorite band at the time, and I REALLY did not want to have to bring one of my parents. So I BEGGED and BEGGED and BEGGED, and convinced two of my cool friends to go with me, and finally my parents relented and said we could go sans parents after we scouted out the metro line and made sure the neighborhood was OK. And so I got to go see my favorite band, and meet the drummer, and get a taste of independence, and be a girl out and about in Paris, and I did it at the Bataclan. I got kicked in the face by a crowdsurfer and some dude put out his lit cigarette on my shirt and it was the best night ever. And it's so, so easy for me to imagine other kids who were so excited last Friday to go out, and other parents who might have been worried like mine were, and it makes me want to throw up.

This was my exact thought—like 7/11 with higher production values and NICKI MINAJ because Bey is benevolent.

Oh man, I know this isn't an open thread but can I drop a link of my own so we can discuss the Feelin' Myself video that came out yesterday and possibly made me believe in a loving god? Nicki and Beyonce! Eating hamburgers! Sharing candy! Wearing jerseys that say "Pervert" on them and miming masturbating! We live in a blessed time and I for one welcome our FLAWLESS*** overlords. Friendship really is magic.

a) yes, yes, yes, ALL OF THIS, fan culture can be so transformative and lovely

b) SERIOUSLY, why can't the "real stuff" ever match up to what fans produce? i feel similarly when i see terrible official graphics and posters when i know there are hundreds of fanartists posting better stuff on tumblr for free.

c) conveniently, i published something about one of my favorite headcanons on this very site, and it is my current refuge from the nightmare that is the reality of Game of Thrones, so this piece is very well timed [weeps, rages] http://the-toast.net/2013/10/25/femslash-friday-s...
