I bought a house in the Temescal in which, since finding out involved cutting a hole in a wall we found out after purchasing but thankfully before using the hot water heater, the hot water heater vented all its carbon monoxide DIRECTLY INTO THE WALL/HOUSE rather than outside as is customary and, you know, safe. Fortunately we had allowed ourselves a few weeks of overlap on our apartment in order to paint, etc., so we did not have to go without hot showers for the two weeks it took to get somebody to punch a vent hole in the outside wall.

On the "yay" side of things, though, I finally got to paint and glitter an entire staircase. Bright red. Being a grownup is awesome sometimes.

So wonderful. I just tried to take in what I hoped would be the first senior cat in a long line of senior cats that needed homes for their final days. Unfortunately my current cats very strongly disagreed with the idea. Still, fostering has been a very special experience and I'm glad there are people who can do it more successfully than I could.

Hits painfully close to home. On a date with a lady I met on OKCupid, I asked what I thought was a standard getting-to-know-you question: where she was from, as in where did she grow up. When her answer was "I'm Indian, but I grew up in Toronto" I tried SO VERY HARD to melt into my chair. I honestly didn't realize that she's probably heard that question in a not getting-to-know-you way about a million times. I felt like *such* an asshole.

I felt slightly less bad about my faux pas when we went back to her place and it was plastered with professional photos of her and the ex-gf she wouldn't stop talking about. Really I'm just saying that because I still periodically put myself on timeout for my own cluelessness in that moment. It's been almost three years, I think it's about a five-year offense.
