Congrats on the job change! That sounds like an amazing feeling to finally be free of that AND have a job you expect to be better in the works.

DC recommendation: the fountain at the Sculpture Garden, where you are permitted to put your feet in the water and cool off on a hot day after museum-ing.

I have a new bookcase coming tomorrow, so I will be doing some reorganizing to get ready for it! It's a bookcase that has glass doors and will theoretically be better for my allergies, so I'm pretty excited. Just three or four more, and I will achieve my goal of continuing to live in an apartment that closely resembles a library/used bookstore while not being strangled by dustmites!

So glad to hear that he's doing better!  That sounds scary.  I at least know where it's coming from - severe mold allergies, and there's mold in the air most of the time - but I'm hoping it will go away for me too someday.  :-)

I had a horrible few weeks last fall where my immune system went haywire and I kept going into anaphylaxis from the air, and The Toast Open Thread kept me supplied with webcomics and entertainment recommendations while I was continually stuck in emergency rooms. It was definitely a lifeline for keeping my sanity, and I really appreciated all the Toasties who helped me out! (And as an update, my immune system still stupidly thinks that much of the world is a threat, but I've managed to stay out of the ER for six months. Huzzah for that, at least.)

Adding another spirit who cannot be there in person! We will have our own ghostly contingent at the party.

Parks and Rec! I keep forgetting to watch that, THIS WILL BE THE WEEKEND. And Sir Terry is always an excellent suggestion, thank you!

Last night I made potato leek soup, which my mother always made and served cold in the summer. It is one of the easiest soup recipes I've ever made:

- Melt 2T butter in a soup-sized pot
- Add a chopped onion and two chopped leeks and cook together for fifteen minutes
- Add two chopped medium potatoes and three cups of broth (chicken or vegetable will both work)
- Bring to a boil and simmer until the potatoes are cooked. Add some salt and pepper, puree with an immersion blender if you feel like it.
- Eat delicious food.

I feel confident that a splash of white wine would be a nice addition to this if you have some around, but I made it without and it was delightful.

Toasties, I had an allergic reaction last night while peeling an onion because of the little bits of mold that onions sometimes have under their outer skin, and I can't even. Give me your suggestions of favorite comfort reading/watching while you're stuck in bed?

(I love you all and I will miss this site terribly.)
