I love this question! I don't read enough poetry, but love being reminded that poetry is certainly under the "literary" genre. Reading the first part of your response about Roald Dahl's words that you conlude is "not a poem,"--maybe another question is, what constitutes a poem?
I agree with you; there is such a thing as literary non-fiction! I just finished The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and definitely think that would qualify.
One of my favorite books of all time! However I read his "Virgin Suicides" book (after loving the film), written before Middlesex, and didn't like it so much. However, like Trish, I'm hoping that he comes out with another book!
I've never read anything by Thomas Mann but this certainly does seem like a difficult literary book to read! However interesting, nonetheless. You've intrigued me to pick up a copy.
Thanks so much for starting this. At first I thought I would participate in the Book Blogger Hop, which is also a great blog hop, but would like to hop with other bloggers that read the kinds of books that I do. Very excited!
