I completely agree with all of your myths being myths EL. There's simply no reason to get on top of your finances these days, there are so many free resources out there (like finance blogs) and discount brokers and then there's Vanguard. If you just do the basic rights, you can make a fantastic financial future for yourself.

We've been doing a bit of clearing here in the Dividends Down Under house and I recently started selling on Facebook groups! One of the things I found is that you really have to list 50% (or more) below retail to get any buyers, also listing the original retail price is helpful, so it shows how much of a "deal" you're giving them on the price.

Selling (and buying) things on Facebook makes you realise how little value items actually hold, just because a retail shop sells a DVD for $10, doesn't mean you'll get $5, a lot of items are almost worthless the second it leaves a store - makes you really think about all your purchases.

I've also saved a lot of money buying things online, the growth of online buy/sell is one of the best tools in the tool belt of a frugal life.
