I know it was meant to be a cautionary tale but I couldn't help reading it as a serving suggestion for life. Because really she seemed pretty okay with Julio.

During every single episode of this show at some point I yell at the screen, THIS IS EXACTLY WHY FAN FICTION WAS INVENTED.

We really DID learn all we needed to know in kindergarten and then just didn't frame it sufficiently well to carry it into adulthood. "Nap and snack" is absolutely the best party aesthetic.

Even before I came out as bi, I had a list of "five female celebrities I absolutely would do if given the chance" but mostly the whole list was just an excuse to think about doing Isabella Rossellini.

It should've been a clue that when a friend asked "what's your list of five male celebrities" I could only come up with two. I can no longer remember who they were now, though. William Hurt maybe.

Thank you thank you SO MUCH for covering RWA, and for doing so with such obvious joy and respect for the books and the community! I did feel like this was a particularly good year (although lobby-con was perhaps not as strong as usual because of the layout of the venue). There seems to be a growing place for queer voices (my particular area of interest, being queer myself and also editing and writing for Riptide) and non-white voices, and I think some of the unfortunate moments you mentioned (and others) at least generated some really great conversations that I hope will have a ripple effect extending far beyond the conference.

Next year, may I suggest you do what a lot of my friends did, for all the free books? Bring a couple of those pre-paid flat-pack/flat-rate boxes, stuff your books in those when you're getting ready to leave, and drop them off at the concierge or in the hotel's business center, wherever those things get mailed out. Then about the time you've recovered from the con...you get a beautiful reminder in the mail, and have things to read forever!

Why did it never occur to me until this series of paintings that artists sometimes used to use female models (because ladies are who they could get, I guess? That's who was hanging around the art studio looking pretty but louche and hoping for a shot at the big time) and just airbrush off the boobage and add a hint of wang? That seems to be pretty clearly the case in at least three of these...

Grackles are pretty much the Walmart version of crows.
