My decision involved more Star Trek metaphors and self-loathing. I become an oddly devoted TOBologist (by which I mean reading as many books as possible that aren't all about men so no thanks, Wittgenstein Jr and A Brave Man Seven Storeys Tall and then lurking in the comments) every year this time, so I can only interpret this comment to mean that S11 is in fact going to be resurrected as a zombie.

The more I think about S11, the less I know how to think about it. I found myself really enthralled by the comments yesterday, except the really gross ones that GOT MIREILLE'S NAME WRONG (like wtf) and were all "her rape was too traumatic!". Those reminded me, sadly, of the need for a book like An Untamed State. It was an interesting matchup because An Untamed State is all about experiencing and processing that trauma, right? And in S11 the heroine literally forgets the most traumatic part of her experiences. Anyway, I'm sure lots of toasties are joining me in lurking in the comments - see you (not) over there!

I think ARE YOU MY MOTHER? is good in a different way - I found it a lot more interesting to think about (because apparently I'm into feminist psychoanalysis) but less emotionally satisfying.

But let us not forget Lisa Duggan's excellent and more historical/theoretical (BUT STILL HELLA JUICY and perfectly titled) book on the topic, Sapphic Slashers!

Season 5 is worse if you already hate McNulty as all right-thinking people do, because it sort of tries to pervert your assumed affection for his whole "I'm such a little stinker"/"the fuck did I do" mien - kind of like how The Sopranos tried to take the audience's assumed enthusiasm for mob life and turn it against them. I find it's better to just read McNulty/Stringer fanfic.

#Ferguson update: Amazing speeches at the Ferguson City Council meeting last night. Several community members identifying themselves as Mike Brown and great evidence of ORGANIZING FOR ACTION. I continue to be overwhelmingly inspired by the community there. Calling out the towns in St Louis County's profiteering off the backs of marginalized people that we've all been reading the stories about. And more great pictures from Robert Cohen:

It's a shame there isn't room for one of my favorites from the benches in the Walker sculpture garden: “THERE IS A PERIOD WHEN IT IS CLEAR THAT YOU HAVE GONE WRONG BUT YOU CONTINUE. SOMETIMES THERE IS A LUXURIOUS AMOUNT OF TIME BEFORE ANYTHING BAD HAPPENS.”
