Perth doesn't have the license.

Gill does. He is going to be his assistant for the first team. Perth's head coach role is essentially club manager.

Everything else is just making sure everything lines up to meet licensing criteria.

I imagine Perth will work on updating his coaching license to make all this unnecessary in a year or two.

Mick McCarthy had Roy and Robbie Keane, Irwin, Quinn, Cascarino, Townsend, Carr, Finnan, Staunton, Cunningham, Duff, Harte, Given and more. Arguably the best any Irish manager has had (only Charlton could compete, but Keane & Irwin in their prime edges it for me).

And his win rate was only barely above the much maligned Trapattoni, who had a far worse selection to choose from.

McCarthy isn't the man to bring Irish football forward. He failed to do so while manager last time. The landscape has changed due to the globalisation of the Premier League, and it's beyond clear that only a massive improvement and focus on the domestic game will lead to long term success. Simply put, top English teams won't train our players for us anymore, we need to do it ourselves. We need a manager who can link the national team to the league. We need to build the league for our long term future. We need a manager who knows that league. Of the two, it has to be Kenny.

His work at Derry, Bohs and Dundalk would suggest it.

It would mean Delaney giving credit to the league though

Enjoy the night Dundalk fans.

We'll be back to challenge again next year.

The title race is done for this season, Dundalk will lift the title.

Only a matter of when.

For Cork City, we will focus on the cup, and to build momentum towards that and for next season. These are the best two Irish teams by far, and will continue to be for the next few seasons at least.

I go to matches.

Home and away.

It’s a long trip back to Cork after watching us get outplayed by the likes of Moldova and Georgia.

I loved going to France and Poland. But there’s no point playing like that to grind out a group stage spot at best. In it to win it, or in it to entertain. We’re doing neither and it’s excruciating to watch.

An attacking lineup on paper but we couldn’t get it going on the pitch.

Randolph has probably his best game in goal.

We have to win on Tuesday now but I think we will do it.

A solid display with plenty to build upon. I wouldn’t change the lineup but I’d consider making subs like Hoolahan and Long earlier in the second leg.

Hoping that by this time Tuesday night I’ll be planning my trip to Russia!

To be fair, they dropped him for Adrian before that.

He lost his place before last season ended.
