This has got to be a joke.

I respectfully disagree. I am not a Ron Paul bot, but I will only support him (actually, I will only support his ideas, the man is not significant- though he has good character and consistency, along with his ability to articulate economics and history)

You are correct. I read that in 2009 before I decided to go back to school for my economics degree. Fantastic book.

The manipulation and twisting of "liberal" to mean something the opposite has fascinated (and angered) me.
My blog with some great quotes on that. http://traditionalliberalism.blogspot.com/2010/10...

Hayek stated in the Forward to the Road to Serfdom (1944) that
"I use throughout the term 'liberal' in the original, nineteenth-century sense in which it is still current in Britain. In current American usage it often means very nearly the opposite of this. It has been part of the camouflage of leftish movements in this country, helped by muddleheadedness of many who really believe in liberty, that 'liberal' has come to mean the advocacy of almost every kind of government control.

"I am still puzzled why those in the United States who truly believe in liberty should not only have allowed the left to appropriate this almost indispensable term but should even have assisted by beginning to use it themselves as a term of opprobrium. This seems to be particularly regrettable because of the consequent tendency of many true liberals to describe themselves as conservatives."

My goal is to take the label back.

You are absolutely right Katallaxxo. Those who continue to skew the truth are simply dishonest. He represents the Old Right on issues.

The best? He is a big spender.

"In his last Congress (2005-2006), he had one of the biggest spending agendas of any Republican -- sponsoring more spending increases than Republicans Lisa Murkowski, Lincoln Chafee and Thad Cochran or Democrats Herb Kohl, Evan Bayh and Ron Wyden. " ~Club for Growth

Yay! A shoutout to Ludwig von Mises and the Economic Calculation Problem.

Mises shows its horrible in practice but even worse on paper; its irrational.

"Economic calculation can only take place by means of money prices established in the market for production goods in a society resting on private property in the means of production." Mises

Its the same fear mongering (similar to what other leftists use on different issues) as if he would get rid of America's National Defense. He would do no such thing. America wants her sovereignty, so do other countries.

There are so many Paul haters. The worn out, "He is OK except on foreign policy" is really getting old. I used to be on that side in 2008 too, but not anymore. Strong National Defense at home, that is necessary, and Paul supports it.
