Umbrella Corporation, and their futuristic peer Cerberus, seem to specialize in expending enormous resources dedicated to developing highly sophisticated and complex facilities and projects in such a way that they are designed to spectacularly malfunction and collapse, killing everyone involved.

Does your new position, objectively cool work aside, come with an overall increase in work responsibilities and in time that you will have to spend doing the job? That was how i had to evaluate something very similar recently. Since the answer was yes, I had a number of conversations with my superiors about "career development". Even something as basic as a title change (not accompanied by increased $) would have been helpful as a line on a resume to show that my career was advancing and that I wasn't just treading water.

If they won't have those conversations with you, or those conversations are "we really do need to set up a plan for your professional development in the near future" then in my experience you should start looking for a new job. You don't have to be noisy about it, but start casting out feelers. See if you can get an external promotion in the time it takes them to actually reward the work you've already done internally. Be clear with any new prospective employers you talk to that you aren't looking for a lateral move, you are looking for advancement. In my experience companies tend to severely undervalue the talent they already have and rely heavily on inertia when it comes to keeping that talent in-house.

Basically: you have to take firm control of your own professional advancement because (almost) no employer will do it for you. Make yourself your top priority. If they don't recognize your value, someone else out there is likely to.

my only objection is the implication that there is something about Damn, Daniel to 'understand'.

Nicole was tweeting a bit yesterday (probably like 80% in jest) about how these link roundups are pointless. I'd just like to reiterate here how much I love them and how much new and interesting stuff they bring into my life on a nearly daily basis. All of these links are gold.

Thank you for giving me the gift of slo-mo video of D'Angelo Russell's nuts getting destroyed on this otherwise bleak Friday morning

I want to take a moment to draw everyone's attention to the picture of the orc real estate agent that graces the "for sale" sign

I think they are only doing the show based on the 2nd book in the series (Elfstones of Shannara?) which i remember being perfectly enjoyable when I was 15 but which i haven't read since.

its certainly not going to be included in any anthologies about the golden age of television, but they are doing a remarkably good job. Some very cool visuals that should inspire a generation of our nation's most stoned nerds at least.

I was being extremely ungenerous. He also resisted the temptation to swipe the ring from Frodo so he was, all things considered, of very sound character. I just wish he'd have realized Denethor had cracked his nut a bit earlier and figured out a way to preserve the Gondorian military before it got routed.
