Christians should totally not hate atheists. Christ Jesus, whom they should follow showed the way how to treat other believers and show them respect. Christians should have an open mind to people who think differently than them and should show their Christian love for them. What would other-while be the difference between a non believer doing good works and a believer doing good works?
In the United States seems to grow a phobia for all sorts of thinking, be it religious, economical or political. Strangely enough many want to go back to the 18th and 19th century way of thinking and living, while they forget why their ancestors fled the European continent.
Extremism on all sites is dangerous and should be avoided.

As you say the problem with many people is that they just follow a leader without any thought. But those who choose for God had to consider a lot and mostly think a lot about all sorts of matters, because in each individual (also non believers) the Creator has implanted the way to think, to follow an instinct, and to create new things.)

The Bible and those who believe in the Words of those 66 Books look at the Creator of everything, who has given human beings the right to have everything in their own hands. So if it became a mess it is their own doing. They had doubted the Power and the right to command of the Almighty One God, at the beginning of the universe.
