I had this happen a few months ago. I didn't really think much of it, and I don't ride the bus that often. The driver's response was definitely an "oh yeah, it's the new cards" type of response, like it was happening a lot.

OP needs to write this letter to WMATA, and spend his time and effort trying to convince them to 'behave', not this blog. He's pointing his finger at the wrong party. And he wants you to behave like them, too! Censor reader comments?! WTF?!

I have NO idea why, but I received an email notifying me of "Your one time registration credit of $3.00 has been added to your SmarTrip® card". Maybe they're feeling generous lately since they found all that money and want to share it (before some internal employees steal it, right?!)
