Disagree....you will (we will) be heroes. And then it will be too late, but they'll see we were right all along.

I'm an ICU nurse and I have asthma so I'm at high risk. I have always gotten the flu shot. Got the H1N1 last year when it was a separate shot. No problems here. (oink, oink)

Occurred to me in a fleeting thought it might be a precursor to the "emergency" he needs to blow the whole country out to water.

You are so right. As a nurse I take care of our aging population daily and see the challenges they face, from disrespect from the younger nurses to desertion by family members that view them as an inconvenience and bother. In addition, government assistance that puts them below poverty level so after they pay for their medications, there's no money left for food. I have had the honor and privilege of taking care of World War I vets, World War II vets and now a quickly aging Vietnam Vet population. Our seniors cannot believe what our country has become and there is so much that could be learned from them. Those wrinkled little faces and sparkling eyes have the wisdom of the ages if we could just take the time to slow down long enough to listen to them. However, sadly, unlike other countries, America has NOT taught it's younger generations to value and respect aging. In fact, our society holds onto youth and all its outer trappings like there's some sin in aging. Now, when the younger generation moves in with grandma, it's to dump an illegitimate child or live off her social security check because it's easier to sit around and watch Jerry Springer than to earn a living. Sadly, we have bred this mindset into our society--a mindset that won't easily change.
