Let's say you came upon a police officer who has taken a handcuffed suspect to the ground and put his knee on the guys neck causing him to cry out that he can't breathe. If you say nothing and just walk on by are you not contributing to the injustice just as if you were the one putting your knee on the suspects neck?

If someone is getting harassed or denied services because of their race have they not suffered violence? It just doesn't mean a physical injury. And if you observe that happening and do nothing are you not part of the violence? Where is your empathy?

I keep seeing posts here complaining about some so-called "cancel culture" but few actual examples of it happening to people who were just minding their own business and made a simple mistake. There was an incident years ago where a woman made a bad joke about flying to South Africa and hoping she didn't get Ebola and by the time she landed she had been fired from her job in public relations and was seriously flamed on twitter. I saw an updated article on the woman and she was only out of work for a few months and no one at her current job knew anything about her "mistake". Even people in the secular community who have been "cancelled" have not had their lives ruined as you suggest happens. I see one of the creepy men, was fired TWICE, for a pattern of creepy behavior, will be appearing at that racist "freethought" meeting in Wisconsin soon.

It doesn't happen at random and it doesn't happen outside of a social media/academic context. I think it is yet another mantle of victim-hood for white cis men to throw themselves on because the world is changing and they aren't in complete control any more.

"Freethought" shouldn't be a free pass to be an asshole. Words mean things and just because you are free to say what you want doesn't protect you from the court of public opinion.

Vjack I've been reading your blog for several years now and you aren't the only one who fails to acknowledge you could be wrong about something as important as racism, sexism, and harassment. You are right that this storm has been raging for years (I was accused of being an old white man with a computer back in the 90s) mainly because of the death grip some people have so as not to admit they are wrong. Was there a specific reason Greg Lammers lashed out? Do you know?

White cisgendered Christian men are the default group in this country so when marginalized groups like women and african-americans crash the gate formerly kept locked by the WCCMs, they get very scared they will lose their special status as the default. Being a white cisgendered male "freethinker" is really only one degree off the default.

If you believe a woman should be the paid the same for the same work and should have complete bodily autonomy, then it is illogical not to demand an end to the pervasive problem of sexism and sexual harassment both in the world and in the atheist movement.

"Freethinker" doesn't come to mind as label for people who like to cherry pick what tribe they hate.

vjack you sure bent over backwards to make it look like people with viewpoints that get kicked off mainstream platforms want to hear "both sides".

While you may hang out on those alternative services as a means of "knowing your enemy" I highly doubt those who do the Liberal-bashing are looking to hear from liberals or hanging out on so-called left leaning platforms.

A bubble is a bubble and people who take the time to join an alternate service aren't looking for understanding of the other side

Why should we waste time with "honest and open discussion" on views that reasonable people find objectionable. Treating people like shit is wrong and doesn't deserved to be validated by treating it like an academic exercise.

Creationism is a viewpoint that is "censored" and I don't hear a lot of atheists complaining about it.

I'm glad you recognize the problems with your post before someone points them out. So how would you correct your views so you weren't blaming the victim?

I agree that people don't read the content and only comment on the title or their bias about the title, but I'm confused.

The people who claimed not to have read the post believed there is a difference between Pence and Abu Bakr? Both do want religion to replace secular based laws. Or is this about splitting hairs?

Usually the people who are concerned about how other people are treated are the ones who think they won't have any problems. It would be generous calling it ignorance. I call it willful denial.

I would doubt you would find much "clean" politics if you viewed the behind the scene emails from any political party - to the professional it is all a game to get their people elected. That is what party politics is about - spinning stuff to make your person look good and the others bad.

The fact that there has been no RNC emails revealed from their hack shows the problem. It isn't the contents that is the issue it is the fact the DNC was exposed and people saw how the sausage was made. Anyone who follows politics weren't surprised.

Sorry but I have to disagree. In this day and age with 24/7 news and social media, there is NO WAY someone voted for Trump and didn't know how sexist and bigoted he and his plans were. EVERYONE knew Hillary was corrupt so don't blow smoke claiming that people rationally voted for Trump not because of the bigotry. Tribalism isn't required - people with working brains could see it.

If you claim to vote for Trump and claim it wasn't because of the bigotry your hands aren't clean. You have enabled the bigotry by ignoring it or not being concerned by it.

I love chest freezers. You can also use them when you get a good deal on meat you can stock up on it for later so you save money in the long run.
