Wow, that's crazy! Obviously considering why I was in Ireland, I didn't face this side of getting an appartment/house.

But hell, it IS crazy to read what you've been through. Once again, it pushes me into thinking Ireland is a country of paradoxes... Well, maybe not that much on that side since it's a mess on many aspects (just thinking of the differences btw 3 flats in Dublin at the same price: worse to best).

Anyhow, I'm glad you shared your experience with such honesty and the heart opened. It's always a pleasure to read you.

And, well, for what it matters, I hope you'll come getting the house of your dreams eventually.

Hey Nearly!

Thank you for your kind reply :) I'm not ready to settle just yet but I secretly wish to travel with my kids so that they share my travel experience though I know it's no as easy at it sounds!

Good luck while you wait, I'll happy to see what you would write next!

Cheers!

Well well well... That's a damn good question.
I stayed 1 year there, not so long but definitly not so short either!

I deadly want to go back. Well, I do, for weekends (J-4!) but it's not the same... There is indeed a sense of freedom of body and, mostly, mind. I had the perfect life: an awesome flat with my girlfriend, a pretty coooool job and the ability to move almost whenever we wanted it and enjoying everything.
I wouldn't have stayed too long though. I love the island though there are a lot of places around the world that I need to check on to see if they are THE place :) Maybe there is none and the game is just to travel around, having this life to be happy. But yet, I'm still young, got the time to settle... It helps.

But why Ireland? Beer, sun (really, definitly not the same!), blue sky, big smiles, beautiful green landscapes and happy friends all around. A nice pace of life, too. I could work and walk down the city centre just to shop while here in Paris, I couldn't, just it. A nice pace of life I haven't found here and I won't. Let's just wait wait for the "somewhere else" now!

That's so cool your kids feel Irish as well as French (at least a bit!). Growing with and through multiple cultures is definitly a good way to be open-minded and see that, well, France is not the only country in the world!

And in any case, that will be a crazy big (+) when growing old!

Hey Nearly,

Funny how Ireland can make you change, unh? Not only being Expat makes you change but Ireland got this little thing about its people, its streets, landscapes, that we simply can't go back from or at great price.

Journey after journey...

Should we say we don't try to put "craic" in our sentences anymore in order to sound Irish because we now that it'll never sound natural anyway? :P

9 years ago @ http://nearlyirish.blo... - The French accent · 1 reply · +1 points

Well, I quiete share your wish to "sound Irish", like if it was a challenge, you know? Some fun to be thought of having an Irish English rather than an American or British English. Something to craic on, you na'

But I also have this colleague, been here for 7 years, perfect English, perfect grammar, perfect French accent! His reasons? He never tried to lose it because of... well, because. And also because he was too lazy to try!

But yeah, you won't find hard to understand him and no english speaker would because he is bilingual (at least, he also speaks German...).

But now, I'm like, why not having both? A bit of French accent, a bit of Irish accent? Could be fun, don' ya' tin?

I guess there are multiple cultures among each of our beautiful countries!
Try to be from Paris and to speak with someone living in Marseilles, you don't say the same thing with the same accent... And you don't even say hello the same way! Well, you know yourself, it's the same between Paris and Brittany haha

Well, if it's the same than in France, even by going through Ireland itself you might not been totally understood everywhere, right? :P

You're right! It's so funny how mentalities can change from a country to another, even that close!
I remember going eating at Buffalo Grill in France; I asked for a pint and asked back "25cl or...?". I guess not all french are used to it yet!
