You write for much the same reason I write. I write, hoping that in telling my story, someone out there "gets it" and starts to understand what life with bipolar disorder or mental illness is like. I write to say "Yes, my mind works differently than yours, but that doesn't make me crazy, or evil, or bad" Those of us with mental illness are the only ones who can authentically tell our stories, in an effort to change society's perception of mental illness.

My mother thinks "playing happy music" is the answer. My brother is convinced breathing exercises can stop a manic phase. My father thinks emails saying "I am here" is enough support and my sister believes ignoring it and therefore me will make it all go away, at least from her life. None of them understand this is not a choice I made. They don't understand that my life will always be spent measuring my behavior against everyone elses (am I too loud, talking too much etc). Doctors and medications will be a fact of my life for the rest of my life. This is not an ear infection, treated with one round of one kind of drug.
I feel your pain, I understand your frustration, you are not alone.
