I just showed that video to my 8 year old who said "What in the world is that?" and declared Sing-A-Ma-Jigs both creepy AND scary. My other son has always been terrified of Jack in the boxes (which I would totally get if it was just the creepy clown ones), but it doesn't matter what pops out. His brother got a Curious George jack in the box for his birthday once and James would go screaming and hide whenever the music started. So funny to remember all the things I thought they would like but were terrified of or detested.

This makes me feel sick. I'm so sorry that your sons and their classmates and teachers were exposed to such cruelty and ignorance.

That is awesome! My boys only play on the iPad. I told them they have to wait for their birthdays for the computer and XBox versions - of course they each want a different one! But after reading this and hearing how much fun it was (and now being on day 2 of vacation and hearing "I'm bored" a bazillion times already) I might cave as early as tomorrow...

I'm so sorry Jill. It is clear from your beautiful tribute that Emily was an incredible person. Sending hugs and strength to you and your family.

Yes- ohmygosh YES! exactly! I get this so well. Its all fire and brimstone and falling out of a plane into a volcano and planes falling into the bedroom and crocodiles eating us. some days I want to laugh because it is like the theatre of the absurd, but they are very real possibilities to my son and he is so very scared. I'm sorry that your guy and family walk a similar path, but I'm so glad that you shared your story, and in such a great post. It means a lot to have someone truly get it. Thank you!!

I absolutely love this post and ALL the -Inators! I can't wait to share it! Tim and Flannery already have some great sleep ones but I would love a Melaton-Inator at 2 am every morning, and so totally need a "Fair-Inator" which displays a hologram of every thing the child has received or gotten to do when he is convinced he's been slighted.

I wish I saw this yesterday and commented then, because not only did I keep reading, i was nodding with you the whole time. I'm lucky enough to have a small fenced in yard, but spent summer after summer locked inside it with my boys, feeling like we were in prison. It wasn't until last summer we were able to breakout. Hang in there, you are an amazing mama. Keep telling your story. Some days it is going to be full of wonder, and others filled with the bad stuff, but your story is one we all understand and relate to, and it needs to be shared.
