"I'm with the Band" has the most fearless "excerpts from my teen diaries" anywhere, ever.

But so much love for Marianne Faithfull's book. It is almost not trashy. Almost.

The way she uptalks those lines so we know she's improvising, and then the cut to Curry looking DELIGHTED.

Lauren, this is lovely.

And so effective! Everyone feels possessive of your lovable mother and her treatment now. And of your feelings about her treatment. I want you to know that I noticed a few details: that chemo was offered 'just in case', as a 'guarantee'. That you weren't suggesting kale as a substitute for cancer treatment because she had already had the treatment; chemo was being offered as a preventative measure.

And re this thread: I also know that there's no one peer-reviewed authority for anything. I know that we resent people who make choices different from our own, increasingly so as the stakes seem higher.

I know that it's easy to categorize "junk science" vs. "real science", but I suggest clicking all the way through on peer-reviewed articles: get to sample sizes, 5-year survival rates, control group outcomes, asterisks. If it's your turn, it may be worth it. Investigate how treatment protocols differ in equally-developed nations. Ask why that might be.

Or: just do what your doctor suggests. But don't characterize your choice as the brave, proper or correct one. It's just your choice, your body, your cancer. There is not one righteous path.

Agreed. I felt that way about a *single dress*
of hers in the "Duke and Duchess of Windsor" exhibit, like I would just wear it until it fell off my body in rags.

Charles James definitely but all that "tunic" and "column" stuff is very Madame Grès: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/19/fashion/19iht-f...

MALLORY. You have magically gone back in time and rescued the little part of my soul that died during Medieval Art and Architecture, which was taught by an ex-nun who always wore a blue smock over her clothes in the classroom. It was from 3-5 in the afternoon and I would always fall asleep and sometimes actually stick my face to the desk with drool.

I was worried for a second that Bill Murray wasn't on here, but of course he was. And everyone else I was worried about. I used to want to be original; now I'm just glad there's the Toast.

Envious, even if you didn't see a tiger. Lovely. Thank you!
