My eleven year old baby feminist self who refused to curtsey to the judges in competitions because it was (*sexist*) and my current blue-haired matriarchy-building self are floored and round-eyed in awe right now. Madame Secretary, you have been an inspiration. Thank you.

Not mine, but thank you. Someone on here the other day wrote it. Wish I could remember who.

You beautiful, beloved thing. Thank you all. May we all continue to be both fiercer and kinder because of this.

I just got petty revenge on my cat for scratching the shit out of my hand earlier. I waited until my housemate was holding her and they were having a nice moment and then I played Willam's parody of Hello by Adele. My housemate laughed until she cried because it was so apropos. The cat got jostled and squeezed and jiggled and cried on. I'm so happy. My housemate is so affirmed. The cat is so disgruntled. Gold star.

I started on the drag queen videos when I read the end of yesterday's Tolkien piece to try and console myself through comedy. Thanks for that.

How are you consoling yourself and/or annoying your animals?

What a beautiful toast!

The last paragraph made me realise how much my behaviour has changed since I've been reading The Toast.

Who else now snarks on the art in galleries?

What else do you do? I walk through the Lifeline Book Fair in Brisbane (literally kilometres of second hand and rare books laid out on sale for charity for two weeks every year) and refuse to pick up books by men unless i love them (Brookmyre, Pratchett, Wodehouse and G. Durrell, basically. Although I think Brookmyre could do with smackings from a rolled up newspaper and a red pen for the sake of brevity and action). I walk along merrily sneering at books about male tears that take themselves very seriously indeed, saying to myself "Oh, please, dickhead. You know you caused the trouble you're in."

I've spent the past eight hours sorting out my carefully curated finances in preparation for the stupid end of financial year. Meaning checking to see what I've made in my small business for the year vs. what my deductions are and checking out my retirement fund contributions, which I have been contributing to assiduously to see if any further spending would get me into a lower tax bracket.
Readers, to get into the lower tax bracket I would need to spend more than I currently have in my bank account, and I was so proud of that bank balance a couple of days ago. So instead of 19 cents on every dollar over $18 000, I'll be stung for $3572 AND 32.5 cents per dollar on every dollar I earned over $37 000 and I am PISSED. I would be better off if I sat on my arse and did nothing!

Australia, kids. The sun is nice but the taxes are freaking high.

Thank you! I've been telling myself to do this for weeks now. I just sent the email and it's going to be the most important kind thing I do for myself today.

A lot of the positive changes I've made in the past two and a half years were bolstered by reading The Toast. My mind expanded, my perceptions grew, my political awareness acquired more depth, my long, long term mental illness receded, I learnt how to handle social situations and interpersonal messes that I never could before, I built an amazing network of wonderful, supportive women, who all cheer each other on and write each other beautiful birthday messages even though they never met before I introduced them, I flung myself into the void of starting a business and I stepped into my power and re-created myself in my own image, professionally and personally, not one that was made for me by others.

Thank you to Nicole, Mallory, Nicole, Roxane, Marco, Jaya, Matt and all Toast contributors and commenters. Its been grand.

I still do not know how Gabriel did not end up with bleeding ulcers from all that stress of unrequited love he was put through while keeping such a calm exterior. Even though I suspect she kept on making him leave because she liked the back view. Because holy cow, what a back view.
