they stuff in their... "fur"? becomes a protective feature of their cocoons too. Last summer we caught one (we live down in PA) and let it turn into a cocoon. My son touched the cocoon and started to yell that his finger hurt --when I looked he had a bunch of "stingers" in his finger. I had to take them out with tweezers, about 20 of them just from a little touch. SO yeah... don't touch cocoons!! :)
