This probably won't make a difference, but I discovered a couple years ago that the version on Netflix is actually shorter than the version on DVD. They pulled out some scenes for some reason. So maybe the DVD version would seem *slightly* less rushed and truncated to you?

I was wondering about that. Shouldn't the author get paid twice? Or can any site on the internet just repost something as long as they link back to the original post?

If it's "very American" to consider yourself a human being and not a horny French dude's symbolic sex toy and to shrewdly protect the copyright on your very lucrative name, then I am damn proud to be American right now.

If you get the Feminist Press edition of the novel from the 1980s (the one with the introduction by Jane Tompkins) it includes the unpublished final chapter in which Ellen comes back to New England married to John Humphreys. Apparently Warner sent the chapter to her publishers after they'd set the rest of the type and they decided to just leave it out.

Look into the Women's Coding Collective. I think their courses are about $50 each and it's a supportive ladies-only community.

Uh, didn't those monks stop illuminating manuscripts at least every 20 minutes to draw farting cats or rabbits with guns coming out of their asses or something else in the margins?

(Also, the idea that humans, especially small humans, should be able to focus for longer than 20 minutes at a time is doing horrible things to our public schools, which expect 8-year-olds to sit still for hours.)

I find it really interesting that as a teenager you identified with the mother on the show rather than the daughter.
