It must mostly be a self-preservation [ha] thing, because there are so many people out there who don't know what professionals in the information sciences field do [many librarian friends have family members who think that they *sit and read* all day] , so hearing the terms appropriated for other usage kind of perpetuates confusion.

As historianon said, "particular profession things!" Amirite?
