I am indeed on the Spiro-something-or-other, and I didn't even get my levels tested -- my derm just said "let's give it a try." I had some cystic before, and it didn't flare up at all when I started the meds. Give it a thought!

I am an Adult Acne Veteran but I am also a testament to everything that Emily advises. A friend told me about a high blood pressure medication that, while it was in testing, magically cleared up the adult acne of those using it. Now it's regularly prescribed, but it only works with hormone-based acne. When *I* brought it up to my derm (I'd never had it suggested) he asked if I had chin or facial hairs, which are a sure sign of hormonal acne. Well, no -- but that's because I pluck the few that pop up. SO: I gave it a try, along with Retin-A every other day. And ladies, this low blood pressure med DID THE DEED. It might not work for you, and I can only have one banana a day, but the moral of the story = don't give up; listen to Emily; don't be scared of your derm.

(The other thing that another derm told me is that our skin changes significantly every 5-10 years, so what worked for you before might stop working....but that doesn't mean that you can't find something new)
