Same here - I've been more likely to scroll through thumbs-upping things, and now I wish I'd participated more.

I'm embarrassed by how clueless I am about Twitter lists - I subscribed, but how do I actually join the list as a member?

I am so sad, you guys, but I also understand. Thanks for making The Toast such a great place to be a writer and a reader.

This is so good. I love how you convey sensations, and that feeling of "I should feel bad that I don't feel lesser or feel the lack of something here"...

I'm so glad my friend linked to your post, because I missed it when it went up originally! I developed Crohn's in childhood, and when I began to lose weight from my formerly round face and stomach aged nine, it allowed doctors and assorted bystanders to coo over what a good thing it was that I was apparently dieting, or else to worry that I was anorexic. Anyway, it turned out to be Crohn's, and five major operations and a permanent feeding tube later, here I am... so far, the Humira has been the most helpful thing I've tried, but I'm still living with a lot of problems every day, particularly due to the amount of bowel I've lost. It's sad that I'm never surprised by people's tales of protracted diagnoses - you'd think after all this time it would be easier to get the right help...

There is unfortunately at this stage no cure for Crohn's disease, and it's irresponsible to state otherwise. I'm reporting this comment.

Wow, this is outstanding. It's everything I've wanted to get across about why Kylie's shoot bothered me, and then some.

Crohn's disease here, and right now I'm very lucky to have a fantastic medical team, but oh, the stories I have from the preceding years... :(

Great post! I've always been irked by the invisibility of sick and disabled people in post-apocalyptic stories, but I've been talking about it with a few people since seeing Max Max: Fury Road, and today somebody linked me this anthology of post-apocalyptic stories with chronically and disabled characters! http://defyingdoomsday.tumblr.com

Apparently we're the zeitgeist now!

I'd like to know what that novel is, too...

There's something very special about the friends who will not only recognise your Simpsons reference within a couple of words, but be prepared to play off it. I treasure those people.
