It's so true, it is never the "stuff" we remember. I had a fantastic childhood, and wonderful parents who I still adore and hang out with all the time. I hope that I can live up to the examples they set, and also hope that my daughter sees the relationship I have with them and grows up knowing that we can have that too. My parents valued experiences over "stuff" and I'm bringing my daughter up the same way.

such a great list! X2 and I were in Dubai back in 1997 and I can totally relate to all of your points. We were there for nearly six months. X2 was hired by Majid al Futtaim to teach a boat captain to drive a high tech sportfishing yacht he'd ordered from Florida, and it was supposed to be a 3 week job. It turned out that "captain" was a gross exaggeration and it took a lot longer to find and train a suitable captain for the yacht.
Another odd thing for us was to be observed all the time, to be recognized as employees of Majid al Futtaim. We would be shopping, for a watch for example, and the sales clerk would tell us that we would have a different price because we worked for Mr, Majid, and it would be a total mystery how they even knew!
