Say I'm heading out for the night to try and get some male attention here's how the "what to wear" situation goes.
1. what kind of guy am I targeting and what location am I going to?
- A sports bar gets a different kind of dress than a martini bar
2. What kind of women will be there and what will they likely be wearing?
-For ME (I only speak for myself) I want to be able to hold my own and qualify in the top 10% but not the top 2%. Top 2% screams trying too hard and high maintenance. Anything top 10 still gets you attention though and respect from fellow women for "putting in the effort".
3. You NEVER want to be the chick that shows up in a cocktail mini to a tailgate and gets mocked by other women even if you're getting male attention.
SO, we're dressing for the men FOR SURE, but the other females in the area definitely set a "bar" for the kind of clothing we're wearing.
Does that make any sense at all? It's complicated. Next time your lady tries on 20 things and you get frustrated remember that a LOT of social anxiety takes place around what we wear. Deal with it!

Look, I know that guys cheat, I know that a LOT of guys cheat, and I know that a lot of women get sucked into the "I feel sorry for him" ploy because, hell, I did. Women aren't that stupid though. We know why these guys are reaching out to us when they're married and we know it' snot to "reconnect with an old friend".
Ever think that a lot of women out there are on Facebook, married with kids, doing laundry and wallowing in dusting, vacuuming and dishes and want an escape too? They are. That attention is sometimes all they want. Some flirting, sexy talk, pictures maybe, and the reminder that they're more than a mom/wife/CEO/etc. They want some spice.
Yeah, men jump on for a thrill but a lot of times so do the women.

I'd say don't bother in college age either. It wasn't until I hit my 30s and got to know MYSELF that I felt like anyone else could really get me...or rather anyone who wasn't also an all over the place girl/woman could get me. I've made great male friendships but they're gotten much better with age.
Just sit back, listen, soak it in, and shake your head...it's all you can do, my friend.
