Is that the one where he complains about French women not shaving their armpits?

What are you talking about? Abortion is not "totally banned" in these places at all.

J Robert Lennon! I read his novel The Funnies ten years ago after picking it up by chance. I loved it. I am just saying.

"in Holland, where prostitution is legal, 127 women have been murdered by their clients and pimps in the last 30 years."

Do correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, this figure is from pre-legalisation in the Netherlands. In any case, I would appreciate it if Mr Wells could supply more details.

It should however be noted that sex workers' rights advocates tend to favour decriminalisation as per the New Zealand model, rather than legalisation as in the Netherlands. Therefore Ms Meredith, in advocating decriminalisation, wasn't "conveniently overlooking" issues in the Netherlands; she was focusing on what is actually relevant.

I had a cat called Mischief who was equally misnamed. She grew to the size of a beachball although happily she lived to be, I don't know, 10 or 12.

Hi I am having a lot of Feelings right now, please add me to the massive list of people who found this beautiful.

I'm used to people mangling my name - it's unfamiliar to them as a name, they see it written down and they think it must be pronounced differently than it looks, or they hear it and assume they've misheard. I remember cringeing my way through a course where the lecturer called me Nina the whole time and seemed not to hear me every time I corrected her. But this is not a parallel experience: it came without the additional baggage of racist bullshit. Still, it horrifies me that (white/Anglo) people will take it a step further by demanding that something so personal as someone's name be 'simplified'. Some of my friends have eventually reclaimed their own names, no longer offering an Anglo one instead of a Chinese one, or insisting on the correct inflection of an Indian name, deciding that it's time that other people just deal with it.

Last Christmas I was completely by myself waiting for it to be over, this time I spent it with a New Zealander, three Brazilians, and a German friend who hitched here on Christmas Eve by surprise. My dad and brother are on the other side of the world (my mother is dead, my sister I don't talk to) and I'm not religious and just try not to get alienated by everyone talking about family and presents and stuff. My present was an old jigsaw puzzle that I will never use, gifted to me in a trainwreck play at the pub the night before. It was nice that everyone I was with was similarly failing to observe Christmas in any meaningful way. We did attempt a picnic by the sea but the rain started bucketing down after two minutes.

Anyway, my point is that I had a nice day.

Oh my god, this makes me so sad and angry. I send you possibly-useless hugs. I hope that posting it here has enabled you to let it go, like you say, but I'd suspect it may need to really be addressed with him, otherwise it could fester forever and ensure that you don't entirely trust him to have your back, even if he does, like we all hope, have a bunch of redeeming qualities. Till then, please remember that most of this universe thinks what he said was fucked up.

This is totally reassuring! Obvs pain is not fun but avoiding surgery (which I even feel pretty blasé about; it's just MONEY) is my main concern. Thank you!

Would an osteopath help with this sort of thing? When I've had back issues, I've seen osteopaths and always been super happy with the results. Research & anecdotes have led me to believe it's better to go for an osteopath than a chiropractor. However, I guess your mileage may vary and I have no idea what scoliosis is and this is totally a drive-by comment 'cause I'm multi-tasking. Good luck!
