I had a college professor who described LA as "America in flight from herself," which always seemed to me like a description straight out of a noir story.

Also, Why Is It So Sunny, It's Unnatural, and Only Further Demonstrates This City's Inescapable Corruption Because Nothing Can Hide from All this Vile Sunshine.

The last Bollywood movie we saw together ended with the husband going mad and dying in a lake.

The last Bollywood movie you saw together was Bajirao Mastani, y/n/how can there possibly be more than one Bollywood movie where the husband goes mad and dies in a lake? Anyway, that is also the last Bollywood movie I saw in theaters and A++ would recommend for the sight of Deepika Padukone swinging a sword around.

Carpe Museum in the third season is also a must-watch! Regular-Sized Rudy is hilarious, and the Bob/Louise father/daughter bonding was especially great in this episode, like legitimately super sweet while still being really funny. Louise's final line put such a huge smile on my face while making me tear up.

I'm sort of morbidly fascinated by how awful or bland most CCM is. Religion has literally inspired some of the greatest works of art in the human canon! What whiplash to go from, like, Handel's Messiah to POD. I want to blame capitalism for this, can I blame capitalism?

Anyway, I'm not Christian, but I love Sufjan Stevens' more explicitly Christian music, and I absolutely adore all his Christmas music, especially the stuff that's super religious. It's not exactly the kind of music that will bring a youth group to their feet, I suppose, but it's fascinating and emotional and nothing about Sufjan Stevens' faith seems like it comes easy.

It's the sequel to the super long fic I linked below. Sorry/not sorry if reading this series eats up the rest of your day/week/month!

I'm just going to leave this here: http://archiveofourown.org/works/779826

Caveat: it's been years since I read this, it's over 200,000 words long, and I don't recall it getting very 50 Shadesy or BDSM-y, or at least no more so than the movie already was. But if you want epic, well written Miranda/Andy, here it is.

I agree with you about Will/Riley and the tone deafness of Will as a white savior cop. I mean, on the one hand, it's nice to see a cop who's unabashedly, wholeheartedly all about "serve and protect," but his storyline really needed more nuance than that, maybe especially given the current climate of discussion around police. Also while I thought the actors had a lovely, sweet chemistry with a genuine connection, Will/Riley was pretty boring. And Riley got shafted storywise, having been so frequently slotted into the damsel in distress role. All the others sensates contributed skills and stuff! Poor Riley was dealing with her trauma, which was sad and all, but made her feel comparatively inert as a character.

Oh my god, I was dying of laughter when Lito and Will met again. "It was very special" indeed! Lito in general is a delight, hilarious and endearing without ever being the comedic relief in a butt of the joke kind of way.

I finished the whole thing yesterday and I LOVED IT. It's like it was perfectly tailored to me, so like, I didn't CARE that it moved really slowly at first or that the dialogue was frequently kind of stilted or that some stuff was totally never explained (Lito??? why are you so cool with randomly starting to hear voices/see other people????). I DON'T CARE. IT WAS AMAZING. THESE EIGHT EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE PEOPLE ARE PSYCHICALLY BONDED TO EACH OTHER AND EVERYTHING IS AMAZING.

I ended up really loving how many tones/genres the show could cover with all its different characters. Getting kind of bored of Wolfgang's mob deal? No problem, let's head over to Lito and his adorable boyfriend and girlfriend! Losing patience with Riley's super traumatic trauma? Time to visit with Nomi and Amanita!

Wow, really? My decision to buy my tickets last Sunday while idly browsing the internet as I had my breakfast is vindicated! I'm looking forward to this!

Also, I'm not ashamed: I checked out the list of food trucks that'll be there, and I might just be looking forward to that more than glorious books and Mallory.
