Lastly I think Mexico's problems aren't that there are too many guns but not enough. We should invite all the people of Mexico to come to America and buy guns (American guns prefer d). Then they can take them back and overthrow the government, kill all the drug lords, set up a free market economy, and a minimal government based on natural law and rights.
This is probably a bit extreme for most of you but if my country was that poor for that long I'd be looking for some "CHANGE"
I don't know how gun savoy the rest of you are but this whole thing makes me suspect something is fishy. I live in Texas and I have purchased guns here. When I was in the army I bought guns in other states. Every time I have ever purchased a firearm I have had a background check. I'm also fairly sure the FBI and ATF keep records of those who purchase large quantities of arms. So what I'm confused about is HOW does an illegal drug dealer from Mexico purchase large quantities of guns in the US. How does this happen? There is no way he does it legally!
I just wanted to make a few comments about the arms problem in Mexico. First it seems there is some confusion about how much of them are coming from the US. I believe the ATF reported 90%, but then I heard via talk radio that the 90% only represents the guns that are traceable and that the majority of arms are untraceable and most likely not American. On the Glenn Beck show I heard a number of 17% of the total arms are from the US.
When I was in Iraq we traced a lot of captured weapons back to Iraqi solders who had sold them for food or cash. I'm willing to bet that a good deal of the arms in Mexico are ones we sold to their military, and that were then sold individually to drug dealers.
