I'm familiar with the report. What they did is unconscionabe, but it isn't "rape" and the overuse of that word should be offensive to people who've endured sexual assault, which makes her writing terrible. Again. Call it a moronic vendetta if you want to join her with ridiculous hyperbole, but I'm offended by terrible writing. Sue me.

Sorry, but I'm all for this. The one stipulation should be that the bigots be required to put a sign in their window and a disclaimer on all advertising that they reserve the right to refuse serve to gay people. I believe those businesses will not last very long. I would rather see them go bankrupt than have them forced to serve people they hate. And the gay community will get better service this way. Go for it bigots - wear your scarlet B with pride.

A lot of those policies are driven by alums. Bear in mind that UVa was all male until 1970, and it has always been filled primarily wirh privileged white boys. These old alums think of date rape as customary, and they do not like change.

The fraternity claims it "did not have a date function or a social event during the weekend of September 28th, 2012" and that the alleged rapist was not a member of their fraternity.

I'm stunned that anyone is buying this as the last word. Even weekends where official social events are not taking place, those frat houses are teeming with drinking frat bros and their friends - even people who are not members or pledges, or even students at that school. I know because I've been in that house on non-social event weekends, and there were always lots and lots of people and really good drugs. How is it possible that anybody is buying this?
