My grade 12 biology class is writing their final exam as we speak and when they got to the first section (identify the vocabulary term that goes with these 45 definitions), they burst out laughing.

They were WARNED! It is I who shall laugh last!

YES! French Canadian swearing! They are super fun to say, but don't always convey to anglophones that they are REALLY BAD WORDS in french speaking parts of the country. The angrier you are, the more words you string together.

I knew two québecois students in university who learned the hard way that "fucké" has a much more offensive connotation in Ontario than in Quebec. Both used the word liberally and were surprised by the horrified look on other people's faces.

My roommate and I were part of the lucky few that got the long form census! How many rooms are in our apartment? What language do we use to communicate at work? What year was the apartment built? It was WONDERFUL!

YES! Boots was my first literary crush too! Less of a bad boy than Bruno, much more sensitive and school minded!

GORDON KORMAN!!!! Also known as the BEST kids books! A friend of mine and I started re-reading them and formed our own informal book club. The first book discussed was The Twinkie Squad, which led to discussions of Pefkakia and what Commando and Douglas would be doing today as adults. Next up is the MacDonald Hall series and I am excited to discuss my love of Elmer Drimsdale.

Oh my goodness, pets from the past! The one that stands out the most was our dog Lucky, a black lab who was abandonned and found in a pile of potash fertilizer. My dad nicknamed her Houdini dog, as she was highly skilled at espcaping from her pen.

She learned to put her front paws on the gate and jiggle the latch to open it. When my dad put a wire through the latch to secure it, Lucky figured out how to crawl beneath the space between the ground and the bottom of the gate. My dad responded by putting cement blocks under the gate and Lucky responded by dragging them away. When my dad piled them two blocks high, Lucky tested the fence of her pen for weaknesses and found that she could squeeze between the wall of the house and the fence of her pen. When my dad fixed the fence, Lucky fell ill from diabetes and had to be put down. She's buried by the field behind our house and my dad still refers to her as the dog that was smarter than him.
