If there was anything devious about this situation it will be immediately swept under the rug since the RCMP is involved now in the "investigation".

Here's how it works.

RCMP helps CPC get elected in 2006 by a surprise "investigation" of a Liberal during an election campaign. After the election it turns out there was no wrongdoing, but, who cares? The elections over.

RCMP then gets unlimited and unqualified protection from the ruling CPC - including sackings of disobedient watchdogs - during any subsequent scandals.

CPC pushes a 'tough on crime' agenda disregarding endless factual data, studies, and experience to the contrary - which incidentally is great for the policing business.

The opposition may have had some interesting questions about this affair in um... question period?
