I’m very late for this discussion and you might have had enough of these Spike-related discussions by now but since this question was asked in a comment thread I started, I'd like to share my thoughts.
I find the scene very hot in much the same way that many people find the Angel drinking Buffy's blood in Graduation Day, Part II, hot. Both scenes are shocking and utterly disturbing and yet, they’re highly erotically charged that I don't see often on TV, even from fully nude sex scenes.
As for this Smashed ending scene, to me, their emotional conveyance through facial expressions is a testament of “Show, don't tell”. It’s like getting the first person narration on screen from each character without any single word. I could read many complex emotions going on inside their mind such as, despair, anger, hatred, resentment, all of which directed towards oneself as much as towards others, while there’s also a undeniable lust, desire, passion and I see them both in sexual pleasure.
At this moment, these two characters let their negative and destructive emotion takes over them completely and this scene captures that perfectly, IMO. This, combined with beautifully haunting music on the back ground makes this scene very powerful and memorable. I love it.

My comment was influenced by the youtube video I was watching just before coming here: College Humor's "How The Avengers Should Have Ended". Have you seen this series already? It's hilarious. xD
Also I love these dailies especially from S6. They're often very funny and fbzr bs gurz qnza ubg, n'est-ce pas? ;-)

Well, since I'm really bad at this sort of thing, I didn't quite get how this "cache" thing works. So I cheat, using the Wayback Machine. :p
Here is the link to the series. I hope you'll like this one, too! http://web.archive.org/web/20080217233744/http://...

Oh, I've read the story and cried my eyes out!!! I'm a big fan of her and I've read almost all her stories. I also rec'ed it on the next page. :)
Side note: Since many people here seems to enjoy the possibilities of Giles/Anya and the dynamic of Giles & Spike, I was about to recommend another great series that has both: "The Giles & Spike Collection", only to find out that the author's website has been shut down... *cries*

A "what if" tale that further explores the relationship between Joan and Randy had the crystal not broken.
I've seen this fic rec'ed many times and it's been forever on my to-read list (which keeps getting longer and longer!), but I haven't had a chance to read it yet.

The Ballad of Randy and Joan by Annie Sewell-Jennings
(Warning: spoilers up through S6 x EP10. Also I'd suggest you not read it while depressed.)
