This I basically right. The day I discovered his tree lullabies was also the day he rescued a newborn fawn from sunburn while its mom was out foraging so I'm pretty sure he's turning into a middle-aged forest sprite in his retirement

This issue is very timely as my dad just last week built a small tree nursery for all the saplings he keeps acquiring. It started out as two that some friends of the family gave him for his birthday, and then a few more that my mother brought home from my grandparents' house, but then he picked up even more at the local garden festival because "nobody else wanted them, how could I just LEAVE them there" so now he has a dozen baby trees in his little tree nursery that he checks on every day and sings Eric Clapton songs to

Behold, the pudding/souffle hybrid!!! : http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2012/12/hot-chocolat... The light-as-air crust of the soufflé-ish top belies the perfectly oozy glob of chocolate within. This is a recipe that cannot fail.

It is insanely easy but looks very impressive, and I have fooled many a person into thinking I bake with a defter hand than I will ever possess. It's probably easiest to beat the eggs with an electric mixer but I always do it by hand because my mixer is older than I am and only the highest speed works anymore, which usually means EGGS EVERYWHERE. But this is a recipe you will not regret.

Thank you!

And there aren't even any good recipes. Just: "Gourmet without being gourmand, she became conscious of her weight in later years. When I sit to table, I always remember her advice on dieting."

COME ON.

delurking to ask: Has anyone else read this thing about Maya Angelou and her love of cooking? http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/04/dining/recallin...

Something about this is really rubbing me the wrong way, even though I know it's meant in good faith and it's supposed to be about uncovering something private and beautiful etc etc etc but does it HAVE to be cooking? Does it have to fucking DIET ADVICE???? This is Maya Angelou! Jesus Christ.

I mean, am I supposed to read this and be like, "Oh! I know how amazing Maya Angelou was but I didn't realize HOW much until I knew that she also struggled with eating her feelings! LADIES, amirite"
