Either stop them or get used to them. That's the long and the short of it.
Here's how I see things.
IF:
1) The Attorney General thinks the Constitution is a piece of toilet paper
2) The President does also
3) The most severe consequences the AG suffers are some really, really, REALLY strongly-worded posts on blogs the AG has no respect for
4) If a Republican is elected to the White House he likely will do nothing about it
5) The mainstream press takes the AG's side
THEN:
Nothing will happen and the AG need not address it.
This is a combination of a socialist attack on their enemy and old-fashioned political pandering. Not only should we be concerned by the undoing of corporate mergers but we should keep our eye open for governmental action to break up the large companies we have. Leftists do not like anything to be big except the State. They don't like Walmart or Starbucks or AT&T or the Roman Catholic Church. I believe this White House wants to be philosophically pure insofar as concerns Leftism. Any Leftist group can criticize Pres. Obama and cut him to the marrow, inspiring him to take action that strengthens his Leftist bona fides. I further believe that Obama is their puppet, a metaphor somewhat diluted by the fact that so many Leftist groups can pull his strings.
Of course, if we elect a Conservative to be Commander-in-Chief...
I can only go by his recent public utterances because obviously I don't know the man. Moreover, it hurts me to say this because I have been pulling for Albert Brooks to become a household name for 30 years, but if the words he speaks in this clip from "Broadcast News" are true, then by the movie's definition Albert Brooks himself has been captured by the Devil.
Baltimore City plus Montgomery, Prince George's and Howard Counties house enough Liberals to run the state. Conservatives win once in a while in statewide elections but the press sees to it that they are portrayed as blockheads and so their tenure tends to be short. You know what's funny? Ex-Governor Ehrlich (Republican) was in the press every day showing us Bible-grasping chimpanzees what a chump he was. Democratic Governor O'Malley gets an inch of press a week. The Press figures they do not have to mention O'Malley since the Democrats will vote for him anyway and by keeping quiet about him Republicans will not be driven to moral outrage by O'Malley's unalloyed extremism. Today's Baltimore Sun has 80 clickable headlines and not one mention of either O'Malley or same-sex marriage in any of them. To be fair, a small line of items called "Hot Topics" includes same-sex marriage, as does a link to the Facebook page, but that's it. In other words, people are talking about it but not The Sun. Notice also Ehrlich is an op-ed columnist, allowing him to inflame Democrats every few days.
An earlier commenter was right - this is mainly about sticking it in the eye of conservative America. Divorces amongst gay couples are considered collateral damage.
Howard County is in the Baltimore metropolitan area. Just sayin'.
Good list, sez me, and of course there are others worthy of recognition. Those listing their favorite overlooked composers can do us philistines a favor by including links to good excerpts so we can listen to them. Come on, BH commenters, show us why your favorite composers belong on the list.
I like George W. Bush, I really do, but I am getting angrier at him by the day that he did not fight to reduce government by at least 10%. I wish I could remember who first said this, but someone said that Liberals make government grow rapidly and Conservatives make it grow slowly. We shouldn't be making government grow at all. I passed a public workers picket line while on a business trip to Miami last week. Why in the world anyone would hire these people to do ANYTHING is beyond me - I would not want them walking my dog - but I sure don't want them charged with finding ways to spend my tax dollars.
