Hard to say what really happened.

The police can never be trusted to tell the truth when it puts them in a bad light.

On the other hand, she may have been a complete flake.

I had a department manager show up on her first day at work sporting a translucent blouse with no bra that made her....features...very prominent.

It probably contributed to her poor performance, since she made a first impression of displaying poor judgment.

You're all fulla cr4p.

We have inquests *because* people like you are so prone to rubber stamp the actions of authority figures.

The fact of the matter is that police believe their lives are more important than those of civilians, and they must be closely monitored.

You entirely miss the problem.
The parents did not shame the family - the girl did - in THEIR culture.
The problem is the importation of inferior cultures.
And yes - some cultures are inferior.
Our American cultures has flaws - some serious - but nothing like the violent tribalism that informs the culture of 3rd world countries.
Further - go to ANY primitive culture of any size and you'll see similar attitudes.

Keep in mind that this was how it was in the US not that long ago.
Roll the clock back to 1850 and you find very similar attitudes.
Backward cultures?
Sure - what do you expect.?

This is true - and the point that many miss.
It's the awareness of the criminality that decides if it's appropriate to try as an adult.
There is no such thing as an "adult crime."
If there were, mentally retarded people who commit "adult crimes" would not be able to use diminished capacity as a defense.

I think the state should have the option of trying anyone of any age as an adult, with the proviso that those under 18 have the option of presenting diminished capacity due to youth as a mitigating factor.

As MT stated, any 14 year old understands what rape is, and the seriousness of the act.

A 14 year old isn't gonna get much traction using diminished capacity as a defense, whereas a 9 year would get a bit more leeway.

The mouth breathers out there need to run and look up "mitigating" right now. It doesn't mean a pass. Both the 14 and 9 year old should be punished, but the severity should be different.

I'm ok with executing the 14 year old upon conviction - not so sure about the 9 year old - but i don't rule it out.

Try reading the article next time - or have someone read it to you, and translate it into single small words.
