Hmmm.. yes... your comments are going to disappear....from here..

HOWEVER -- you will be able to access them forever via your IntenseDebate account, which will not disappear.

And certainly, they will always live on in my basketball consciousness...

Defense is always a tough sell and defensive teams -- NBA or WNBA -- always seem to be underrated unless they're just over the top aggressive like Detroit's Bad Boys or feature a superstar on offense like the Spurs.

I don't think it's too much to say that defense does not sell to casual fans, which is why I think it's overlooked.

That's a really interesting way to put it Helen... I guess good defense doesn't evoke agony for me... it just seems to ramp up the intensity I suppose. Brings an edge to the game.

Love it.

Wow... I'm surprised to see someone say January is clearly inferior to Toliver or Montgomery. All different types of points guards and they all have glaring weaknesses right now.

I'm not sure there would be a way to lift one clearly above the other when none of them have *succeeded* as consistent starters yet on their teams, two of them -- Toliver and Montgomery -- on non-playoff teams.

And what about Lehning?!?!? ;)

It was amazing to see all those folks come out for January. A lot of visiting players have groups in the crowd cheering them on, but that one seemed larger -- and more enthusiastic -- than the others, for whatever my observation is worth.

It will be interesting to see how Dunn manages her development from this point on given a) the Fever's success with Tully, b) expected off-season development, and c) Tully's willingness to take a back seat next season.

"Lowest common denominator is not the best way to run a league"

Agreed here... unless the WNBA had some sort of profit sharing plan in place. Don't know the economics of exactly how that works, but might be time to look into it if there are massive financial differentials between teams in a small league...

The Storm have given their fans well beyond their money's worth this year with all those overtimes, so yes, I might be a little biased in my assessment of the league...

Year-round play certainly has an effect. I agree...

But without being a medical expert, I cannot say with any measure of certainty whether reduced roster sizes exacerbates that problem... or more specifically, whether that is what has led to the injury epidemic this year.

Regardless, I do agree that the Conn Sun strategy of drawing upon foreign players might end up being key...

Right... Bonner's a great Sixth Woman of the Year.

I don't see where we disagree Stan....? ;)

In seriousness, a good play maker takes the ball out of their teammates hands because he/she is the most capable player on the court. The argument -- which I have seen advanced recently about Kobe Bryant -- that stars take the ball away from their teammates is problematic at best. If the playmaker has the ball in their hands and makes good decisions that result in their team scoring, then what's the problem?

What a sad story for the Liberty.

It looked like they stopped fighting the sadness of losing even before the all-star break...

Like Chicago, it would be perplexing if some major changes about the player personnel level aren't made this off-season...

But what's even crazier about that is the game by game minutes log:

(in reverse order)

NYL: 26
@LAS: DNP-CD
DET: 3:06
PHO: 24

And in those big minute games, she's producing... if I say more I'll start pointing fingers...so I won't...

Btw, I'll leave both of your comments just in case we need some evidence for treating you OCD at a later date... ;)
