For supplements, I've had really solid success with taking extra magnesium. A previous neuro reccomended it to me after I had a failed trial of Topamax (the WORST, do not reccomend - I had terrible brain fog and suicidal ideation the whole time, plus bonus focal seizures at the end of the 6 month trial). A lot of ERs will give magnesium via IV for an intractible migraine, so it made sense to me. I do 500mg 2x daily, but I've seen numbers all over the place for what works for different people. A recently published meta study backs me up on this one: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26752497 (there are a LOT of hits if you search pubmed, too).
I've also been taking a B complex, as the same neuro indicated riboflavin might be helpful and it's kind of a pain to find on its own at Target or whatever. The science on that's a lot less clear, but you'd have to work pretty hard to od on B vitamins, so it might be worth a try for you. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26780280

Flippant response because I'm overwhelmed aside, thank you for so clearly articulating my experience of being nonbinary (though I'm deeply jealous you could bind - my chest seems too dense to make much of a dent). It's really lovely to hear other people describe the same series of worries about passing and what that even means, fears that I'm secretly buying into some misogynistic thought patterns by wanting to have top surgery, and sense of disconnect with my body.
Is there a way to get in touch to ask more personal questions about the who and cost of your surgery? I'm also in the east bay and I'd like to do it this year, so knowing someone local(ish?) is nonbinary friendly is very welcome.

Depending on the zoo/sanctuary/what have you, there might be a chance to pet/feed a cat or six near you. I've hung out with servals in Melbourne, had a backstage walk/talk with the big cat keeper in Adelaide where I got to feed the tigers and lions, and done a private walk with one of the tigers and keeper at Tiger Island in the Gold Coast (all in Australia). Different places have different rules, because they've socialized their cats differently. The coolest was the walk with the tiger. If you are of a similar age to me, you might have seen a special on Animal Planet in the late 90s about Tiger Island and their 4 cubs. My brother and I swore we'd go, so when i moved to Australia we had to.
ETA: Said brother also has worked in a big cat sanctuary and agrees with my assessment about lions. Bunch of jerks.

It's a beautiful area, and Durham is definitely the more artsy scene. The comparison to Brooklyn was apt.
