That is an excellent idea. An area in decline combined with the pending abandonment of the Cedarapidsinc buildings would benefit greatly from this form of development.

Who is the fool? Class time (of a few hundred students at the very most) and their abandoned instruments would not cost anywhere near $180 million... Only a dim-wit would attempt to discuss the cost vs. benefit on those issues. There are other facilities in the Iowa City regional area that can be used in the interim as facility redundancies are already in place.

You do know that a third of your tax dollars already goes to China (who holds our debt now)...that third you pay to China pays for all the other past borrowing for senseless projects like this.

A fool refuses to see the big picture. We (US in aggregate) cannot afford $190 million dollar college theater buildings ANYWHERE. Your "type" is the problem. I find myself laughing at your short sighted ignorance and your sense of priority, but saddened to realize that you actually believe what you post.

Do YOU really think the original framers ever even considered for one second that same sex marriage was a possibility?

You do know that no one on this board is saying the Ground Zero mosque group CAN NOT build their mosque/community center, right? Do you understand that?

They are saying that they SHOULD NOT build the mosque because it offends most US citizens. Why do you liberals always miss the finer points of simple arguments?

You do understand the difference between “can not” and “should not”?

You keep bringing up points of constitutionality...when those of us on the right know this issue is a matter of decency and respect for the 9-11 victims...it is as simple as that. Of course that group has a right to build their mosque…however, decent minded folks know it’s offensive.

Yes, you could spend $10 million every 40 year flood for 720 years... YOU WOULD BE AHEAD, to re-work the existing Hancher building, duh. Mold was not an issue for the first 40 years and if it is cleaned and rebuilt correctly, your mold issue is moot. Anyway, humans have lived with mold since the beginning of human existence... despite YOUR concerns mold is not worth worrying about.

Interesting that the private property owners can re-build their business/office spaces, yet government buildings still sit empty nearly three years later, huh?

The existing Hancher building is beautiful....and your “type” is why this country is in the mess that it is in presently...this country cannot afford to build $190 million theater buildings anywhere, Iowa or Alaska....we shouldn’t be throwing money away so easily anymore.
